11 Incredibly Useful Tips Every Blogger Should Know
Make sure you have a good about page
An About page is where you have the chance to show you and your blog to your readers. It’s also a place that most of your first-time readers are going to head to, so use that opportunity to talk about what makes you and your blog awesome and why they should keep reading you.
Include share icons
Our WordPress Themes come with this function already built in, but if your theme doesn’t have it then add them! Share icons encourage readers to promote your content which is going to result in even more readers and more people promotion and more readers, and you get the point.
Use up your footer
The footer is that space at the end of your blog that most bloggers only use to have the copyright don’t do it! Jam would pack it with more awesomeness I mean if someone took their time to scroll that much you might as well give them something. The footer is a great space to include your sign up form, or your most popular posts and pages. Even including your Instagram reel (like we have on most of our themes), it’s a great way to go.
Set up an editorial calendar and stick to it
Your editorial calendar is a great place to add all your ideas and assign them a date. It helps you stay organized. For my food blog, I have two editorial calendars. one where I just dump all my ideas and then one that’s an actual calendar where I set them up, and it has been super handy to help me balance it all and keep me sane while also making sure that I’m delivering good quality content that’s seasonal appropriate
Comment on other blogs
If you are a blogger chances are you read blogs too! I mean we are kind of like a community, so instead of just reading and heading out (hasta la vista baby!) take 1 minute to leave a comment. Not only is a great way to support a fellow blogger, but it also helps you to connect with them + if your comment was cool and you included a link to your site chances are other commenters are going to visit you as well.
Pin your content
Pin it and then pin it again and then pin it once more. Join group boards and create a board that’s specific to your blog and pin there every time you have something new or every time you want to give some fresh air to an old blog post. Pinterest can drive a lot of traffic so use it. Which takes me to the next thing
Set up rich pins
It takes a total of 10 minutes and can amp up your Pinterest presence, so head now and do it.
Make a space for your social media icons
This is one of the most important tips every blogger should know!! All our themes already have them on the sidebar but if your’s don’t have it include them! Make it super easy for your readers to connect with you outside of your blog
Even if you are blogging as a hobby having the emails from your readers can help you send them useful information, and update them when you posted something new. If you plan to monetize your blog having their email can also help you if you want to launch something like an online boutique, a youtube channel a course or your Etsy shop.
Take at least 1 class every year to improve your craft
Stay up to date and improve your work by taking at least 1 class a year. I’ve taken classes about anything and everything from learning photography, to learning how to code to recipe writing and developing. Taking lessons helps you improve and at the same time fills you up with new ideas. We are gong to be launching an online course about all the tech side of blogging in a couple of weeks so if you are looking to learn something new that might be the perfect place to start.
Use a free tool to edit your pics
Chances are you are not a pro photographer (and if you are please share your tips!) but blogs and Instagram and Pinterest are still visual, so amp up your phone photography by editing your pics. You don’t need to have Photoshop and actually I don’t use it most of times. A little insider secret and one of my favorite from this list of tips every blogger should know, is using a free tool like Canva (to create graphics) and Pixlr to give more glow to your pics are all you need.
